Epic Cards: The Guards
A famous saying states that “The Best Defense is a Strong Offense”. But that isn’t the case all the time. In most situations such as in games like Clash Royale, you have to accompany a strong defense in order for your offense to push through. You cannot have archers or minions to push all the way to the enemy crown towers due to their light armor and low hit points. Tanking is a trick that almost every playing in the game does since the beginning. This is where a tank such a Giant, Royal Giant, or Golem is placed up front to take the damage. Thus enabling those offensive troops to attack rendering the push to be a more successful one. This has been the typical way of pushing. As time has passed, plenty of counter attacks against such has been created . It is a good thing that the Guards has been added on to the game on an update last May.
Our common sense would dictate that, for them to be named as Guards, they can tank for you. This statement is partly true because what makes it false is the fact that they are not behemoths like the P.E.K.K.A. and Golem but rather just plain Skeletons equipped with fighting gear. We know that Skeletons are the cheapest in the game as they only cost a single elixir to be deployed, and on top of that, they are weak and fragile but this time, Guards wield shields to help you push further.
The PROs of Guards
Many would be little such a weak-looking card but it is actually a table-turner. The Guards can withstand one attack, no matter how weak or heavy the attack is. To make things simpler, the initial attack would make them loose their shield. Then, the next attack would kill them. Since the card spawns three Guards, then you get 6X hits for tanking. Imagine placing this card on the front, then a tank, then your attacker? You would totally annihilate any heavy armored troops against you. A P.E.K.K.A, Prince, Dark Prince, and even a Golem could not get passed that combo.
The CONs of Guards
You might have noticed that we have been focusing more on single target troops because it buys you time to push even further against those units. Knowing their strengths, we must also explore their weaknesses. You might be facing Guards from your opponent as well. In order for you to counter-attack the Guards, all you need against it is a splash attack. Troops like the Wizard, Fire Spirits, or Bomber does that pretty well. Do have distance when placing them do as you would not want to place them right in the center of them. If you are thinking about spells, they do affect them as well. So if you see a push having Guards on the Vanguard, then drop a Fireball to eliminate their prized shields.
