Rare Card: Dart Goblin
The Goblin Family consists of the Goblins, the Spear Goblins, the Goblin Gang, the Goblin Barrel, and the Goblin Hut. This was what players were accustomed to until January 13, 2017 as the Dart Goblin was released. This card can be unlocked once players reach the Jungle Arena which is Arena 9. It can be compared to a Mega Minion in some sort as both cards summon one large unit instead of mobs of three.
The Dart Goblin is fierce in his own nature. Chewing gum as he runs fast, he will strike from afar with his blow dart to annihilate his opponent. As complex as that sounds, he can still be lethal despite having a mouth full of gum due to countless years of practice. This beast has a fast firing rate of 0.7 seconds that is similar to the Lumberjack and the Witch.
How to Execute the Perfect Dart Goblin Assassination
Although the Dart Goblin is hasty, he has low hit points and can be compared to that of the Princess. With him being that fragile, he would be useless if spawned alone. Unlike the Princess which can shoot from afar, he only has the same hit points, not the range.
However, still with a mighty range of 6.5 tiles, the Dart Goblin can shoot at the same range of the Royal Giant. This allows him to out range any other defensive tower aside from the x-bow of course. Inferno towers can deal massive amounts of damage but with the Dart Goblin, it can be taken down with ease. Another advantage is placing it in the middle for defense.
Discussing further about defense, the Dart Goblin can easily eliminate skeletons. If situated near a crown tower, a dart goblin could pierce through those skeletons one by one. Even against the notorious sneaky Graveyard, he could also be a great defense against it, making it a positive elixir trade. That is of course, if there is no other troop to tank for the Graveyard. Just for reference, a level 4 Dart Goblin will be able to one shot a skeleton.
Some Drawbacks for the Dart Goblin
A drawback for the Dart Goblin when eliminating skeletons is the fast shooting speed that he has. Killing those skeletons quickly enables him to advance forward making it impossible for him to hide behind the King Tower. This is a great opportunity to counter using the arrows to wipe the Dart Goblin out, without worrying to activate the King Tower.
One combinations that must not be ignored is the Ice Spirit and Dart Goblin combo. The tandem could deal more than 1,000 damage if left unattended. This is an amazing table turner after a heavy attack, considering the low cost elixir trade. The freeze spell that holds up the Crown Tower allows the Dart Goblin to freely attack. The two can however be countered by a simple arrow spell.
Great Dart Goblin Defense Tactics
Being an easy kill to the high damage opponents he might face, a shield would work best. Adding a tank up front would be an effective strategy in order to execute the attack of the Dart Goblin perfectly. With a mere elixir cost of 3, he is one cheap assassin. Pair him up with a Knight or even just an Ice Golem after a clash could get the enemy crown tower’s hit points to a significant drop.
Elite Barbarians are sturdier, faster, and stronger compared to the regular barbarians, which makes them a pain upon defending. With the help of a low cost distracting meat shield such as an Ice Golem, kiting is made possible. Sending in one ice golem to run towards the opposite direction would distract an incoming Elite Barbarians. Although the Dart Goblin does not deal that much damage, it can execute a good defense with such defensive strategy.
The Mega Minion is slowly being used by players nowadays so if you happen to bump on a lone one, then the Dart Goblin would be the best pick to defend from it. With the low movement speed that the Mega Minion has, it allows the Dart Goblin to shoot darts rapidly with ease, and eventually taking it down.
Even more units to counter…
Although the Balloon is seldom used on higher arenas, it does appear sometime. A dart goblin can kill a balloon and prevent it from dropping its bombs however, it cannot prevent fall damage caused after death. If you want your crown tower to be left untouched, then it would be wise to pair it up with an Ice Spirit. This would give a temporary halt and slow the balloon afterwards, enabling the Dart Goblin to swiftly kill it.
One of the most popular combinations that is used nowadays is the Balloon and Ice Golem combo. This is truly a devastating combo if left unattended. Every deck differs so players must react quickly when set up with this heavy offensive attack. A good defense using the Dart Goblin is to throw a fireball to do area damage to both incoming units. The fast-paced attack of the Dart Goblin and the crown tower will be sufficient to stop the force.
Range and Speed over Damage
Most players will picture the Dart Goblin to be an undesirable unit. It is true that the damage is lesser compared to two archers but because of the tremendous speed and advantage in range, the Dart Goblin can be quite useful in many ways. He could take down some of the tanks such as the knight when placed in the center of the base giving players a positive elixir trade.
VERDICT: The Dart Goblin has its own PROs and CONs. Although he cannot be utilized at all times, he can be useful on most counters for positive elixir trades. Although still a goblin by nature, he cannot be taken down by a single zap unlike his other goblin family such as the spear goblins and goblins. The Log is one card that is worth bringing when faced with the Dart Goblin. It will not only eliminate him but also damage the enemy crown tower as well. Nevertheless, those pesky little skeletons need someone to take them down… and the Dart Goblin would be a great alternative in defending from those pests.
