Spells: Zap, Freeze, Rage, and Lightning
Once you hit Level 6 you begin to pick up some spell cards. Spells provide an in-the-moment enhancement to your current offense or defense. Spells, if used correctly, could be the difference between taking 200 points off a Crowned Tower, or taking the Tower down in one charge. The first four spells you will be able to use come to you in P.E.K.K.A’s Playhouse and Spell Valley (go figure). Here’s a brief overview of what these spells do, and some tips on when and when not to use them.
Clash Royale Spell: Zap
Zap delivers a targeted bolt of lightening to troops. Depending on the level of Zap you have, you could take off as much as half of an opponent’s troop life. This means, with a zap, your Crowned tower built-in defense system may be able to take out an attacking army on it’s own. The most effective way to use this spell, however, is to zap your opponent’s troops as they approach an elixir-expensive offensive asset such as a Witch or a Wizard. With a good zap, your oncoming army will be able to take out your opponent’s defense with ease, allowing you to advance further than before.
Don’t use this spell as a last resort. While it may do some damage to a few units in a troop, an oncoming diverse army will be very lightly effected by this spell and you’ll be stuck watching them destroy your tower as you wait for more elixir to generate.
Clash Royale Spell: Freeze
Freeze will come to you when you’re a Level 6, and boy is it a game changer. The Clash Royale Spell Freeze will disable all active opponent troops, buildings, and towers within its range for 5 seconds. This gives a knight enough time to take the majority of an approaching army out; it gives a Hog Rider enough time to do significant damage to a tower before anything strikes it once.
The most effective way to throw freeze is when you have a strong unit headed toward your opponent’s tower. Once you think your opponent has used up their elixir bank to defend against your attack, drop the freeze over the top of the targeted tower and all the defending units. You offense will be able to go at your opponent’s tower without even a single arrow from the built-in defense, let alone any of the defense your opponent threw pre-spell.
This spell can be wasted a few ways. One way is you throw the spell too late, and your offense is defeated before the opponent’s defense can be frozen. The other way is if you freeze your opponent’s offense without also throwing down some sort of force to take them out. Freeze does not do any damage to opponent’s troops, so unless you bring the heat after you’ve thrown the freeze spell, you’re just buying yourself some time before a major attack.
Clash Royale Spell: Rage
You’ve heard the stories about mothers being able to singlehandedly turn over cars to save their children- the spell Rage gives your troops that motherly instinct to protect their babies (your crowned towers) and work twice as fast and as hard as they would without the spell.
Rage is perfect for that final charge when you’re trying to take down that tower in overtime- you have a diverse but small army out on the prowl, but you only have 10 more seconds to get to the tower and take it down. If you throw Rage at the right time, you will have no problem defeating your opponent’s half hazardous attempt at defense.
The biggest mistake you can make with this spell is timing. Don’t throw rage if your army is already at half-stamina and your opponent just sent a Minion Horde to take you down. Reserve this spell for the moment when you have a few different full-lived troops headed for attack.
Clash Royale Spell: Lightning
The spell Lightning is very much like the spell Zap, but instead of temporarily dismantling and damaging your opponent’s troops, the spell Lightning is only effective on your opponent’s towers. There’s no bad way to use this spell because it does the same thing each time, but the most optimum way to use it is in those last few seconds of overtime when your opponent’s tower is very weak, but you don’t have the army power to take it down. Lightning could actually help you win an entire match in an instant.
